ABOUT THE TOOL
Small tools for the factory floor
BarcodeBench is a free utility from SmartFACT: Smart Factory using AI, operated by Obsidian Black Ltd. It shows exactly what a scanned barcode value contains and explains the GS1 fields it supports, so you can see why a receiving system accepted, rejected or misread it.
It is useful on its own. Checking, examples, saving, backups, offline preparation and every report are free, with no account, trial or email address required. The tool does not call an AI service: its explanations come from fixed rules and the official GS1 Barcode Syntax Engine, running in your browser.
What it is, and is not
BarcodeBench checks the content of a value: its exact characters, the format you declare and the GS1 fields in its supported profile. It does not grade print quality, identify the printed symbology, read image files, look up who owns a GTIN, generate barcodes or certify compliance, and it never opens an address found in a value. Supported checks passed is a statement about content, not an approval for production. A session belongs to one browser: there are no accounts, shared records or connections to other systems.
The workbench
ScannerBench shows exactly what a keyboard scanner sends. PrintBench checks that a printer reproduces a known PDF at the right size. CardBench creates 100 × 50 mm bin and rack cards. CountBench records stocktakes and cycle counts by location. ManifestBench checks a list of distinct cartons before a load leaves. CycleBench times work cycles and changeovers on one phone. FeedBench inspects, maps and compares factory CSV and JSON files. FindBench finds a scanned code's description and locations in your own file. MatchBench compares a reference scan with each label scanned after it. TagBench makes clear review tags for items that need attention. When the same job repeats every day, the SmartFACT services below automate it with rules you describe in plain English.
Help and support
To report a problem or ask a question, use the SmartFACT support form. The tool has no built-in problem report, so tell us the browser and device, the format you chose and what you expected, with a redacted report or a synthetic example rather than real values. Help with the tool is free; there is no guaranteed response time, and bespoke integration work is a separate paid service.
