FREE BARCODE CONTENT CHECKS

What is inside that QR code address?

Check the GTIN, lot, serial and dates inside a GS1 Digital Link address as plain text. BarcodeBench explains the fields and never visits the link.

Free to use. No account, email address or trial. Works offline once prepared.

MADE FOR THE FLOOR

For quality, packaging and goods-in teams who find QR codes holding web addresses on supplier packaging and want to know which product data they carry before anyone opens them.

A USEFUL STARTING POINT

A web address can carry product data

A GS1 Digital Link QR code holds a web address with the product's identifiers in its path, such as /01/ followed by the GTIN, and attributes such as an expiry date in its query. BarcodeBench reads that address as text in your browser. It explains the supported identifiers, notes an address that uses plain HTTP and keeps unrecognised parameters visible without interpreting them. It makes no request to the address, so the host never learns that you checked it.

FROM QUESTION TO EVIDENCE

Three steps to a useful result.

  1. 01

    Scan or paste the address

Scan the QR code with the camera or a 2D scanner, or paste the address. It stays as inert text: nothing is opened, fetched or followed.

  2. 02

    Choose GS1 Digital Link

Choose GS1 Digital Link subset as the format. Help me choose suggests it for any value that starts with http:// or https://.

  3. 03

    Review the fields

The GTIN, lot and serial from the path, and supported attributes from the query, appear as fields with the same checks as any GS1 scan.

A CONCRETE EXAMPLE

A product address, explained without a visit

A pack carries a QR code for https://id.example.com/01/09527041283601/10/B417?17=270531. Read as GS1 Digital Link, BarcodeBench lists the GTIN 09527041283601, the lot B417 and the expiry date 270531, shown as 2027-05-31, and reports Supported checks passed. The same address starting with http:// and ending in &utm=x gets two notes: it uses HTTP, and the extra parameter was kept but not interpreted. id.example.com is never contacted.

USED IN PRODUCTION

From one explained scan to checks on every job.

BarcodeBench explains one value at a time, when someone asks. Two SmartFACT services handle the checks that repeat every day: choosing and checking the label for each job, and checking the parts that go into each kit. Both are in early access, with scope agreed at onboarding.

Early access

LabelRules

When the questions come from your own labels, LabelRules turns customer label requirements described in plain English into approved rules. Those rules select each job's layout, resolve customer codes and check the required values before the label prints.

Early access

KitProof

When scans need checking against what a kit should contain, KitProof builds each kit's checklist from approved plain English component rules and checks every scan against the expected parts and quantities. A wrong or unexpected identifier stays visible instead of filling the next line.

BEFORE YOU START

A few practical answers.

Which Digital Link addresses are supported?

Uncompressed addresses whose path starts with /01/ and a 14-digit GTIN, optionally followed by /10/ and a lot, then /21/ and a serial, with supported identifiers such as dates in the query. Compressed addresses, other primary keys and other path orders are reported as outside the supported profile.

Does it check that the website is genuine?

No. BarcodeBench does not visit the address, check its certificate or confirm that the host belongs to the brand owner. A well-formed address says nothing about who published it.

Can I scan the QR code with my phone?

Yes, on a phone or tablet with a camera. Open BarcodeBench, choose the camera button in the scan field and point it at one code. The camera runs only while that view is open, and the decoded text is checked in the browser. Check the value before continuing, as reading depends on the device and browser.

What are the current limits?

BarcodeBench checks the text a scanner or camera produced, not the printed barcode. It does not read image files, grade print quality, identify the printed symbology, look up who owns a GTIN, generate barcodes or certify compliance, and it never opens a Digital Link address. Its GS1 profile explains 29 application identifiers; anything outside it is reported as outside the supported profile, not guessed. Full dates use a stated 2026 reference-year policy. Each value can be up to 4,096 characters (16 KiB), a session holds 16 values, imported files can be up to 2 MiB and a ScannerBench report up to 50 captures. Camera scanning reads Code 128, QR, Data Matrix, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A and UPC-E, and depends on the device, the browser and camera permission. There are no accounts, shared records or connections to other systems.

What happens to my data?

Your values stay in this browser. A session is kept in memory while the tab is open; Save on this device keeps it in this browser between visits. Nothing you check is uploaded, and no barcode value is ever placed in a link, a page address or analytics. The camera opens only when you choose it, and frames are decoded on your device. Reports leave out values unless you choose to include them. Google Analytics is optional and loads only after you accept; it never receives scans, values or file contents. Use Analytics settings to change your choice; see /privacy/.
